Teachings
The Church is, first of all, a community that worships God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This worship is the foundation of all the teaching that takes place.
This is most obvious in the reading of Holy Scripture during the services, above all the Gospel and Epistle readings at every Divine Liturgy. Often there is also a sermon to help us understand the Gospel. Our prayers, too, focus our minds and hearts on the central truths of the faith; if we listen with an open heart, we come to learn and understand them more fully.
The most important part of our learning takes place in the family. What children learn in their early years is the foundation for everything that follows. Each week after the Liturgy, the children of the parish meet for a short Sunday School, where they learn about the Gospel of the day and explore their ideas together with their teachers. Their main teaching, of course, happens at home, and the Church offers support to parents in this.
For those new to the Church, we provide catechetical teaching, tailored to the particular needs of each person preparing for baptism (the catechumen).
